§ 33.77 EMPLOYEE BENEFITS.
   (A)   All city employees shall be permitted to carry over up to nine days of accrued unused vacation time into the following year of service. Said unused vacation time must be used within four months following the end of the calendar-year (or anniversary date if applicable) during which the vacation days were not used. Any unused vacation days that are carried over into the four-month period stated above shall be forfeited if not used by the employee during said four-month period. For purposes of calculating vacation days for employees working 24-hour shifts, said employees shall be permitted to carry over up to three days of accrued unused vacation time into the following year of service.
   (B)   All city employees shall be entitled to a paid day off during the month of their birthday. Employees must take this paid time off during the calendar-month of their birthday. Employees cannot be required to take the day off and shall have the option to forfeit this day if they elect not to take the paid time off. This paid time off will not count as "time worked" for purposes of calculating overtime.
   (C)   The Mayor shall have full authority to authorize a ten-hour work day schedule for any city department so long as all city services and functions can be performed satisfactorily.
   (D)   All city employees shall be entitled to six consecutive paid days off for bereavement following the death of a parent, step-parent, spouse, parent of a spouse, child, step-child, grandchild, step-grandchild, or foster child; and three consecutive paid days off for bereavement following the death of a grandparent, grandparent of a spouse, sibling, step-sibling, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, sister-in-law or brother-in-law. For employees working 24-hour shifts, said employees shall be entitled to two consecutive days off for bereavement following the death of a grandparent, parent, step-parent, spouse, parent of a spouse, child, step-child, grandchild, step-grandchild, or foster child; and one paid day off for bereavement following the death of a sibling, step-sibling, sister-in-law or brother-in-law. Each bereavement day must be approved in advance by the employee's department head. For exigent circumstances, an employee's department head may authorize the bereavement days set forth above to be taken as non-consecutive days. A current city employee may receive up to four hours paid time off to attend the funeral of a current or former city employee if approved in advance by the employee's department head.
   (E)   Upon termination of their employment with the city, so long as the employee is in good standing, each employee is entitled to be paid 50% of their accumulated sick leave at straight time based upon their hourly rate earned at the time of termination of services.
