§ 10.05 DEFINITIONS.
   (A)   General rule. Words and phrases shall be taken in their plain, ordinary, and usual sense. But technical words and phrases having a peculiar and appropriate meaning in law shall be understood according to their technical import. (I.C. 1-1-4-1)

   (B)   For the purpose of this code the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   AND or OR. Includes the other as if written AND/OR.
   CITY, MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, or MUNICIPALITY. The City of Bedford, Indiana.

   COUNCIL. The Common Council of Bedford, Indiana.
   I.C. Reference is to the Indiana Code.
   MAY. Is permissive.
   MONTH. A calendar month.

   MUNICIPAL CORPORATION. See CITY.
   MUNICIPALITY. See CITY.
   OWNER. Applied to a building or land, includes any part owner, joint owner, tenant in common, tenant in partnership, or joint tenant of the whole or a part of the building or land, either alone or with others.
   PERSON. Includes a natural person, partnership, or a corporate body or any body of persons, corporate or incorporate. Whenever used in any clause prescribing and imposing a penalty, PERSON, as applied to any unincorporated entity, shall mean the partners or members thereof, and as applied to corporations, the officers thereof.

   PERSONAL PROPERTY. Every species of property except real property.
   POPULATION. The population according to the most recent federal special or decennial census. This definition applies even if the reference is to the most recent federal decennial census.
   PROPERTY. Real and personal property.
   REAL PROPERTY. Lands, tenements, and hereditaments and all chattels real.
   SHALL. Is mandatory.
   SIDEWALK. That portion of a street between the curb lines of the lateral lines of a roadway and the adjacent property lines intended for the use of pedestrians.
   STATE or THIS STATE. The State of Indiana.

   STREET. Except as provided in the traffic code, the entire width between property lines of every way or place of whatever nature when any part thereof is open to the use of the public, as a matter of right.
   THIS CODE or THIS CODE OF ORDINANCES. The Bedford City Code as adopted by ordinance, and as hereafter modified by amendment, revision, and by the adoption of new titles, chapters, or sections.

   YEAR. A calendar year, unless otherwise expressed.
