137.03 DUTIES.

   (a)   The Fire Chief shall perform the duties of his office as required by law, shall at all times be available for call to duty in connection with such office and shall be responsible to the Director of Public Safety.

   (b)   The Assistant Fire Chief shall perform such duties as are usually performed by Assistant Fire Chiefs of fire departments and as the Fire Chief shall order.

   (c)   The Captains shall be in charge of the shift, act as fire prevention officer for business establishments within the City, and perform such duties as are usually performed by Captains of fire departments and as the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief shall order.

   (d)   The Lieutenants shall be in charge of the shift in the absence of a Captain and shall perform such duties as usually performed by Lieutenants of fire departments and as the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief and Captains shall order.

   (e)   A fireman of the first grade shall first have served a probationary period of one year, and one year as a second grade fireman, in the service of the City, prior to becoming a fireman of the first grade. Such firemen shall perform such duties as are usually performed by firemen of all grades and as their superior officers shall order.

   (f)   The personnel of the Fire Department shall perform such specific duties as are set forth in the City’s Employee Job Descriptions and as the same are hereafter amended and approved by the Mayor and the Fire Chief.
