135.245 PART-TIME CORRECTIONS OFFICERS. 
   (a)   There are hereby established within the Division of Police seventeen (17) part-time positions of Corrections Officers who shall be under the immediate control and supervision of the Assistant Chief and the Corrections Officers O.I.C. and shall be in the unclassified service.
   (b)   The part-time Corrections Officers shall be responsible for duties associated with, but not limited to, the operation of the City Corrections Facility as are set forth in the City’s Employee Job Descriptions and as the same are hereafter amended and approved by the Mayor/Director of Public Safety, the Police Chief and the Assistant Chief.
   (c)   The part-time Corrections Officers shall work not more than thirty-two 32 hours per week, providing coverage for the post as required to operate the facility, according to the Minimum Standards for Jails in Ohio.
   (d)   An applicant for the part-time Corrections Officer position shall have successfully completed the Basic Corrections Officer Course approved by O.P.O.T.A., or shall complete the same within one (1) year of the date of hire.
   (e)    The part-time Corrections Officers shall receive such compensation as authorized by Council and shall receive such benefits as indicated under Chapter 157, Employees Generally, for part-time employees.
   (f)   Initially, all part-time Corrections Officers will receive uniforms to be worn during all on-duty hours and shall be responsible for the care of such uniforms and any additional equipment as approved by the Safety Director. Any Corrections Officer who voluntarily terminates employment within eighteen (18) months from that officer’s appointment shall be required to reimburse the City of Bedford Heights an amount equal to the cost of the initial uniform and equipment received by the officer.
   (g)   In the event any part-time Corrections Officer voluntarily terminates service with the City of Bedford Heights within eighteen (18) months from the appointment of that officer, the officer shall be required to reimburse the City an amount equal to the cost of any training incurred by the City to enable that officer to perform his or her duties.
   (h)   The part-time Corrections Officers shall receive, in addition to other compensation, an annual allowance toward that purchase of uniform clothing as prescribed by the Chief of Police or his/her designee in the maximum amount of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) in any twelve (12) month period. All such uniforms shall be purchased by the employee who shall present to the Chief of Police or his/her designee a proper receipt of such expenditures. The uniform allowance shall be paid by check issued to the employee and distributed to the Chief of Police or his/her designee in the amount of seventy-five dollars ($75.00) on April 15 and seventy-five dollars ($75.00) on October 15 of each year. Distribution of the checks shall be made by the Chief of Police or his/her designee to the employee upon presentation to the Chief of Police or his/her designee of the above-required receipts. The Chief of Police or his/her designee shall collect all such receipts and forward them to the Director of Finance.
