134.02 DISPATCHERS.
   (a)   There are hereby established within the Department of Public Safety, the following positions, to be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the Civil Service provisions of the Charter, to receive such compensation as Council may from time to time provide:
      (1)   Six regular dispatchers; and
      (2)   Part-time dispatchers as required.
   (b)   Dispatchers shall have the duty and responsibility of maintaining the telephone and radio call center at City Hall with adequate personnel so as to give twenty-four hour service seven days a week under the direction and supervision of the Mayor/Director of Public Safety, or a police officer designated by the Mayor/Director of Public Safety and Police Chief. Dispatchers shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age and be a high school graduate or possess equivalent experience and/or relevant education and shall perform such duties as are set forth in the City’s Employee Job Descriptions and as the same are hereafter amended and approved by the Mayor/Director of Public Safety and Police Chief.
   (c)   Full-time dispatchers shall be probationary for a period of one year from and after their appointment.
   (d)   Full-time dispatchers shall work on the basis of a forty hour work week.
   (e)   Part-time dispatchers shall be employed as required by the Mayor/Director of Public Safety.
