141.01 ESTABLISHMENT; SUPERVISION AND CONTROL.

   (a)   There is hereby established a Department of Community Life to be organized and to perform such time as Council may from time to time provide under the supervision and control of the Mayor.

   (b)   The Department of Community Life shall oversee all City-sponsored community programs and diversity of programming for the purpose of recreation, wellness, education, social support, senior citizens/disabled, cultural, arts and general entertainment, and the operation of the municipal swimming pools and grounds, the City parks and playgrounds and the community center and outbuildings and ball diamonds.

   (c)   The Department of Community Life shall include the Division of Sports & Leagues, the Division of Aquatics, the Division of Fitness, the Division of Senior Citizen/Disabled, and the Division of Parks & Playgrounds.

   (d)   The Bedford Heights Community Life Department shall be committed to educating and enlightening individuals and families by offering a wide range of recreation and social opportunities essential to the health and well-being of the community.

      (1)   Senior Citizen/Disabled Division. There is hereby established, in the Department of Community Life, a division to be known as the Division of Senior Citizens/Disabled whose mission shall be to administer programs to assist Bedford Heights senior and disabled citizens age 62 and older.

      (2)   Sports & Leagues Division. There is established, in the Department of Community Life, a division to be known as the Division of Sports and Leagues, whose mission shall be to administer programs to provide sports and sport-related activities, recreation and services.

      (3)   Aquatics Division. There is established, in the Department of Community Life, a division to be known as the Aquatics Division whose mission shall be to administer programs to provide aquatic facilities and services.

      (4)   Fitness Division. There is established, in the Department of Community Life, a division to be known as the Division of Fitness, whose mission shall be to administer programs to provide fitness facilities and services.

      (5)   Parks & Playgrounds. There is established, in the Department of Community Life, a division to be known as the Division of Parks & Playgrounds, whose mission shall be to administer programs and operate park & playground facilities owned by the City of Bedford Heights and located in the City of Bedford Heights.
