157.13 WORK WEEKS AND PAY PERIODS.
(a) For the purpose of this chapter, a work week shall begin at 12:01 a.m. Monday.
(b) A work day shall begin at 12:01 a.m. on any day of the week and end at 12:00 midnight of the same day.
(c) Regular working schedules for the City as a whole shall consist of 40 hours per week divided into 8 hours per day from Monday through Friday, except where continuing operations are necessary, such as in the Wastewater, Police and Fire Divisions, where the work schedule shall consist of 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
(d) The daily rate of pay for salaried employees shall be determined by dividing the yearly salary by 260.
(e) When any work day is broken into more than one regular eight-hour work period, the period of work commencing later than 5:00 a.m., but prior to 9:00 a.m. shall be deemed the first or day shift. The work period next following the first shift during the day commencing later than 1:00 p.m. but prior to 5:00 p.m. shall be deemed to be the second or afternoon shift and the work period next following the second shift during the day commencing later than 9:00 p.m. but prior to 1:00 a.m. shall be deemed to be the third or night shift for any authorized differential in rates of pay.
(f) If an employee’s shift begins before 12:00 midnight and concludes after 12:01 a.m. on the next day, he or she shall be considered as working all consecutive hours of that shift on the day when such shift actually begins for pay purposes.
(g) Salaries and compensation set forth in the salary ordinance shall be paid bi- weekly, regardless of the day of the week on which a month shall end.
