§ 32.100  LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY.
   Leaves of absence without pay may be granted, subject to approval by the County Commissioners, for absences for personal reasons, for education not directly related to employee duties, extended military service, and illness including pregnancy and childbirth-related illnesses.
   (A)   Conditions.
      (1)   Leaves of absence without pay, except military leave and pregnancy or childbirth-related illnesses, are limited to 30 working days in a fiscal year.
      (2)   Leave of absence without pay for pregnancy or childbirth-related illnesses shall not exceed five months in a given fiscal year. Positions will remain open during periods of approved leaves of absence without pay.
      (3)   Failure to return to work on the first working day following leaves of absence without pay are considered voluntary resignations. Accrued personal and sick leave balances will be retained during leaves of absences without pay, but accrual of additional leave will be suspended.
   (B)   Requests. Requests for leaves of absence without pay will be submitted to the County Manager as far in advance as possible.
