8.12.080: NOTIFICATION OF STATE POLICE:
   A.   When the registered owner of an abandoned, lost, stolen or unclaimed vehicle, or another person legally entitled to the possession of the vehicle, cannot be identified from the registration files of the state of Illinois or from the registration files of another state, if applicable, the police department or village shall notify the state police for the purpose of identifying the registered owner or other person. The information obtained by the state police will be immediately forwarded to the law enforcement agency having custody of the vehicle for notification of the owner or other person.
   B.   Whenever the village is not able to ascertain the name of the owner of an impounded vehicle or for any reason is unable to give notice to the owner as provided in subsection A of this section, the village shall immediately send or cause to be sent a written report of such removal and impounding by mail to the secretary of the state of Illinois. Such notice shall include a complete description of the vehicle, the date, time, and place from which removed, the reasons for such removal, and the address of the vehicle pound or authorized garage where the vehicle is stored.
