A. For purposes of this chapter, the term "business" shall mean any for profit or not for profit entity, including, without limitation, any sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, joint venture, association, franchisee, or cooperative that leases or owns space within a building, located in the village for the primary purpose of carrying on such business. Businesses that operate from distinct spaces or buildings with separate addresses shall be deemed to be separate businesses regardless if such businesses are owned or operated by the same sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, joint venture, association, franchisee or cooperative.
B. It shall be unlawful for a person or business to conduct, engage in, maintain, operate or manage a business activity either by themselves or through an agent, employee or partner, as the principal use of a property, without first having registered such business with the village and obtaining a village registration certificate. Upon proper application to the village clerk, a registration certificate shall be issued. Such registration certificate is issued solely for the purpose of registering the applicant's business so the village may conduct fire and life safety inspections. The registration certificate does not permit a business to operate in violation of any provisions of the village ordinances or this code. (Ord. 2007-O-34 § 2)
