11-1-4: DEFINITIONS:
   ALLEY: A strip of land, not less than twenty feet (20') in width and not more than forty feet (40'), along the side of or in the rear of properties, intended to provide access to these properties.
   BUILDING LINE: A line within a lot or other parcel of land, so designated on the plat of the proposed subdivision, between which, and the adjacent boundary of the street upon which the lot abuts, the erection of an enclosed structure or portion thereof is to be prohibited.
   CROSSWALKWAY: A strip of land dedicated to public use, which is reserved across a block to provide pedestrian access to adjacent areas.
   CUL-DE-SAC: A street having one open end and being permanently terminated by a vehicle turnaround.
   EASEMENT: A grant by a property owner for the use of a strip of land by the general public, a corporation, or a certain person or persons, for a specific purpose or purposes.
   LOT: A portion of a subdivision or other parcel of land intended for transfer of ownership or for building development.
   MARGINAL ACCESS STREET: A minor street which is parallel to and adjacent to primary streets and which provides access to abutting properties and protection to local traffic from fast through-moving traffic on the primary streets.
   MINOR STREET: A street intended primarily as access to abutting properties.
   PLAN COMMISSION: Wherever the term Planning Commission is used in this Ordinance, the same shall mean Plan Commission.
   PRIMARY STREET: A street of considerable continuity which serves or is intended to serve as a major traffic artery connecting large areas.
   PUBLIC STREET: All primary, secondary and minor streets which are shown on the subdivision plat and are to be dedicated for public use.
   SECONDARY OR COLLECTOR STREETS: A street which carries traffic from minor streets to the primary street system, including the principal entrance streets of residence development and streets for circulation within such a development.
   STREET: An area which serves or is intended to serve as a vehicular and pedestrian access to abutting lands or to other streets.
   STREET WIDTH: The shortest distance between lines of lots delineating the public street.
   SUBDIVISION: The division of a lot, tract or parcel of land into two (2) or more lots, parcels or other divisions of land, for the purpose, whether immediate or future, of transfer of ownership or building development, including all changes in street or lot lines. Said subdivisions shall require a plat of subdivision. Exemptions: Those divisions of land which are in compliance with 765 Illinois Compiled Statutes 205/1(b) and all subsections thereunder shall not require a subdivision plat. For these latter divisions of land, two (2) copies of a plat of survey by a registered Illinois land surveyor shall be submitted to the City prior to the issuance of any building permit for said lands. For the purposes of the calculation of dedication of school lands or funds or the dedication of park lands or funds as regulated under Chapter 6 of this Title, the definition of subdivision shall be as set forth in Chapter 6 of this Title.
