5-1-1: CHIEF OF POLICE:
   A.   Appointment: Upon the annual organization of the City Council, there shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the approval of the City Council, a Chief of Police, who shall act as Superintendent of Police. (1944 Code § 70; 1997 Code)
   B.   Term Of Office: The Chief of Police shall hold the office to which he/she may appointed for the term of one month from the date of appointment and from month to month thereafter for the term of one year, unless notified by the Mayor or City Council at the end of any month, as hereinafter provided, or unless removed from the office for cause, as hereinafter provided. (1944 Code § 71)
   C.   Removal; Causes: The term of office for the Chief of Police may be terminated at the end of any month by the Mayor, or in the Mayor's absence, by two-thirds (2/3) majority of the City Council, upon giving to the incumbent of said office a notice thereof in writing, and the Chief of Police may be removed at any time by the Mayor, or in the Mayor's absence, by two-thirds (2/3) vote of the City Council, for any misfeasance in office, violations of City ordinances, neglect of duty, or conduct unbecoming an officer.    D.   Oath: The Chief of Police shall, before entering upon the duties of such office, take the oath prescribed by law for such officers. (1944 Code § 73; 1997 Code)
   E.   Salary: The salary of the Chief of Police so appointed shall be such as may be designated by the City Council from time to time. (1944 Code § 74; 1997 Code)
   F.   Duties:
      1.   Records And Reports: The Chief of Police shall keep such records and make such reports concerning the activities of the Department as may be required by statute or by the City Council.
      2.   Responsible For Department And Members: The Chief of Police shall be responsible for the performance by the Police Department of its functions, and all persons who are members of the Police Department shall serve subject to the orders of the Chief of Police. (1944 Code § 75)
      3.   Serving Process: The Chief of Police shall serve or cause to be served all warrants or other legal process required to be served by him, by law or ordinance of the City. (1944 Code § 76)
