Applicants for appointment with the Bainbridge Police Department as police officers must do the following:
(A) Be a citizen of the United States, with residence in Putnam County for 1 year immediately prior to date of application; or if in military service with such residency prior to the service, and possess an honorable discharge. Copies of the applicant’s birth certificate and military discharge must be filed with the application and permission to fingerprint;
(B) Hold a diploma from an accredited high school, or an equivalent G.E.D., with an official transcript of the high school record submitted as part of the application;
(C) Possess sufficient physical stamina and stature to meet the demands of law enforcement employment;
(D) Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, unrestricted except for the wearing of eyeglasses, contact lenses to correct defective vision to 20/20, and be in good physical condition with no infirmities in all other respects;
(E) Be of reputable character, with sound credit rating and past work record, and not have been found guilty of any offense except minor traffic and juvenile violations. Applicants must submit 3 letters of recommendation with their applications;
(F) Display an aptitude for law enforcement work with a suitable personality; agree to take a lie-detector or any other tests; and consent to legal search/seizures of their person, automobile, home or personal property when under investigation;
(G) Pass a physical examination submitted by a physician; and
(H) The Marshal, with approval of the Town Council, may waive specific qualifications for applicant successfully meeting these requirements at such time as vacancies do not exist, shall be placed on an eligible list until vacancies occur. Applicants should inform the Department of any change of address.
