§ 34.01 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   CALENDAR PAYROLL PERIOD. A bi-weekly schedule beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the Saturday following payday, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on the following payday.
   DEPARTMENT HEAD. Any person designated by the Town Council (and who shall be responsible to the Town Council), to oversee or be in charge of any designated department. Department heads shall include the Street Superintendent, Superintendent of Water and Sewage Treatment Plants, Superintendent of Electric, Town Marshal or any other department head presently in existence or hereinafter created.
   EMPLOYEE. As used in this chapter to determine entitlement to certain employee benefits, including paid vacation time, bereavement and sick leave pay, any person (other than those excluded hereinbelow) working 32 hours or more a week on average for the town, under the supervision of a department head, or responsible to a department head for instruction, work performance, or conduct. The term EMPLOYEE shall include a department head. The term shall not include permanent part-time employees, probationary or temporary employees.
      (1)    PERMANENT PART-TIME EMPLOYEE. Any employee hired for permanent employment but is scheduled to work an average of less than 32 hours a week.
      (2)   PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEE. An individual who shall have worked for six months or less shall be considered a probationary employee for purposes of the granting of vacation, holiday, sick leave, and personal days.
      (3)    TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE. Any employee hired on a seasonal or short time basis.
   IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER. Spouse, mother and father, mother-in-law and father-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters and corresponding step relatives.
   YEAR. A period beginning January 1 and ending December 31 of the same year.
