The officers of the volunteer fire department shall consist of a fire chief, an assistant fire chief, three (3) captains and a secretary-treasurer. The fire chief shall be appointed to serve for a one year period and shall be appointed by the mayor, by and with the consent of the city council. The assistant fire chief shall be appointed by the fire chief for a one year term which shall coincide with the tenure of the fire chief. The three (3) captains and the secretary- treasurer shall be elected by the members of the department for a one year term, such election to take place at the annual meeting of the Atlanta volunteer fire department to be held in January of each year.
