4-1-2: AUXILIARY POLICE:
   A.   Appointment: The mayor may, with the advice and consent of the city council, appoint auxiliary police officers, not to exceed eight (8) in number, from names furnished the mayor by the chief of police. (Ord. 10-2007, 9-10-2007)
   B.   Conservators Of The Peace: Auxiliary police officers shall not be members of the regular police department and shall possess conservator of the peace powers as defined in section 3.1-15-25 of the Illinois municipal code 1 . (Ord. 10-2007, 9-10-2007; amd. 2017 Code)
   C.   Powers And Duties: Auxiliary police officers shall serve at the direction and control of the chief of police and shall have the following powers and duties:
      1.   To aid or direct traffic in the city.
      2.   To aid in the control of natural or manmade disasters.
      3.   To aid in case of civil disorder.
      4.   To act at the direction and control of the chief of police in any other activity, other than those activities traditionally reserved to those who are vested with conservator of the peace powers.
   D.   Uniforms And Identification: Auxiliary police officers may wear uniforms. Uniforms and identification symbols worn by auxiliary police officers must be different and distinct from those worn by regular police officers.
   E.   Firearms:
      1.   Auxiliary police officers may, with prior permission of the chief of police, carry firearms while on duty.
      2.   All auxiliary police officers shall successfully complete the forty (40) hour mandatory firearms training course before being permitted to carry a firearm, as specified in section 3.1-30-20 of the Illinois municipal code 2 . Upon completion of the course of training, the chief of police shall file a certificate attesting to the auxiliary police officer's successful completion of the required forty (40) hour mandatory firearms training course.
   F.   Compensation: Auxiliary police officers shall receive no compensation for services rendered. (Ord. 10-2007, 9-10-2007)
