"Front yard" means a yard extending across the front of a lot between the side lot lines, which is the minimum horizontal distance between the street line and the main building or any projections thereof. Uncovered balconies, roof overhangs, sills, belt courses, cornices and ornamental features, but not including chimneys, may project into the front yard a maximum of twenty-four inches. Uncovered steps, uncovered porches, or paved terraces may extend a maximum of twelve feet into the front yard. On corner lots the front yard may be considered as parallel to either street.
