§ 52.53 PERMITS, INSPECTIONS AND REGISTRATION.
   (A)   Standards. All installation shall conform to the regulations set forth in the National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code as adopted by the State of Indiana including any amendments made to.
   (B)   Existing work. If electrical installations existing at the time of the passage of this chapter are found to be in a dangerous condition because such installations do not comply with the regulations of the National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code or this chapter, it shall be the responsibility of the Marshall County Building Department, herein after provided, to order the owner of the property in which the unsafe conditions exist to upgrade such electrical wiring or equipment so that the same will conform with the regulations of this chapter and the National Electric Code as adopted by the State of Indiana with amendments. The Marshall County Building Department shall give the property owner a written notice of the corrections to be made and specify the period of time in which such corrections shall be completed. Failure to comply will result in electrical service being disconnected from the offending property.
   (C)   New work. Electrical service to any new consumer shall not be furnished until the utility has received from the Marshall County Building Department certificate of approval indicating to the utility furnishing the electoral service that the electrical installations of the building or structure conform with the provisions of this chapter and the National Electric Code as adopted by the State of Indiana with amendments.
   (D)   Inspections and certificates. Upon the completion of any installation of electrical wiring and equipment which has been made under a permit, it shall be the duty of the person, firm or corporation making the installation to notify the Marshall County Building Department, who shall inspect the installation within one business day of the time said notice is given, or as soon as thereafter is practicable. All inspections shall be performed by the office of the Marshall County Building Department.
   (E)   Permits. No electrical wiring or equipment shall be installed within or on any building, structure premises, nor shall any alternation or addition be made on any such existing equipment by any person, firm or corporation without first securing a permit from the Marshall County Building Department located at 112 W. Jefferson St., Room 302, Plymouth, IN; nor shall any installation be commenced until a certificate has been posted at a job site showing that a permit has been granted authorizing them to proceed with the electrical installation.
   (F)   Registration. All electrical contractors and electricians must be registered with the Marshall County Building Department Office and subject to any rules, requirements and fees as determined by that office. Applications for obtaining said registration shall be made at the Marshall County Building Department Office in Plymouth, Indiana.
   (G)   Liability For damage. This chapter shall not be construed to relieve from or lessen the responsibility or liability of any part owning, operating, controlling or installing any electrical equipment for damages to persons or property, caused by a defect therein nor shall the Town of Argos, Indiana, be held as assuming any such liability by reason of the inspection authorized herein or by the registration and certificate provided by the Marshall County Building Department.
