There is hereby established the position of school crossing guard within the Police Department. This position shall be a part-time position with the hours to be set by the Police Chief. The duties of the school crossing guard shall be to be present at intersections or other places designated by the Police Chief to aid and assist school children crossing public streets. The school crossing guard shall have the authority to direct and regulate traffic in order to accomplish this purpose. The school crossing guard shall not be authorized to carry a weapon or firearm at any time. The city shall furnish a uniform for the school crossing guard. Compensation of the position of school crossing guard shall be set each year in the budget.
