4-1-12: AWNINGS:
   (A)   Wooden Awnings Prohibited: Hereafter no wooden awning shall be erected to any building within the fire limits of the City; nor shall any wooden awning heretofore erected be repaired unless the same be covered or roofed with iron, tin or other fireproof material and properly supported with iron posts. If not constructed of wood, then it should be covered with cloth, leather or other pliable substance or corrugated iron, securely attached to the building by iron or other metallic fastenings or supports, and any and all awnings shall be elevated at least seven feet (7') at the lowest part thereof above the sidewalk.    (B)   Posts Prohibited: All awnings hereafter erected or constructed in the City extending over any street or public sidewalk shall be of canvas or of metal and shall be so constructed or erected as not to be supported from the ground surface or sidewalk level by posts, either wooden or metal or of any other character.    (C)   Duty Of Officers: It shall be the duty of the building official or his designee to superintend or oversee the erection and repair of all awnings within the fire limits of the City and if the same are not erected or repaired in accordance with the provisions of this section, to serve notice upon the person so erecting or repairing the same or upon the owner of the building to which the respective awning is attached to erect or repair the same in accordance with the provisions of this section or to remove the same for a failure to comply with the same.
