(A) At times, emergencies such as severe weather, fires, power failures, or earthquakes, may disrupt the town’s operations. In extreme cases, these circumstances may require the closing of a work facility. In the event that such an emergency occurs during nonworking hours the town will notify employees of the closing via text message.
(B) When the decision to close is made after the workday has begun, employees will receive official notification from their department head. In these situations, time off from scheduled work will be unpaid. When the decision to close is made before the workday has begun, time off from scheduled work will be unpaid. However, with approval from a department head, employees may use available vacation or personal hour benefits to cover the absence.
(C) Employees in essential operations may be asked to work on a day when operations are officially closed. In these circumstances, employees who work will receive regular pay for all hours worked on that day.
