A. Purpose: This chapter is established to protect and promote health, safety, general welfare and order within the city of Albertville through the establishment of a comprehensive and impartial series of standards, regulations and procedures governing the type, number, size, structure, location, height, lighting, erection, use and/or display of devices, signs or symbols serving as a visual communication media to persons situated within or upon public rights of way or private properties. The provisions of this chapter are intended to encourage opportunity for effective, orderly communication by reducing annoyances, confusion and hazards resulting from unnecessary and/or indiscriminate use of communication facilities.
B. Objectives:
1. To establish standards which permit businesses a reasonable and equitable opportunity to advertise.
2. To preserve and promote civic beauty and prohibit signs which would detract from this objective because of number, size, shape, height, location, condition, cluttering or illumination.
3. To ensure that signs do not create safety hazards.
4. To preserve and protect property values.
5. Allow signage and communication to direct traffic on both public streets and private property. (Ord. 2016-03, 5-2-2016)
