By law, the city is obligated to eliminate the public hazards to the public safety and health caused by dangerous or hazardous structures and conditions. To this end, the city attempts to reduce such hazards through the issuance of demolition orders, when appropriate, through the city attorney's office. To promote cooperation and understanding of this process, as well as provide for an orderly set of procedures, the council has directed the preparation of this policy. (Res. 1990-2, 5-21-1990)
