1-4-1: GENERAL PENALTY 1 :
   A.   Misdemeanor Or Petty Misdemeanor Violation; Penalties: Violation of a provision of this code is a misdemeanor or petty misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, a person may be punished by a fine established in section 3-1-3 of this code, or such other amount set by law, or imprisonment for a term not to exceed ninety (90) days, or such other term set by law, or both, but in either case, the costs of prosecution may be added. Each act of violation and each day on which a violation occurs or continues is a separate violation. (Ord. 2017-01, 1-3-2017)
   B.   Definition Of Misdemeanor And Petty Misdemeanor: A "misdemeanor" is an offense or crime that the city council is empowered to punish with fine or imprisonment; a "petty misdemeanor" is as defined by law.
   C.   Limitation; Compliance With Statute: The provisions of subsection A of this section notwithstanding, no penalty shall be greater than that established by state statute for the same offense. (2005 Code)
