The Tree Commission shall be responsible for establishing guidelines for the planting of trees, including street trees (e.g., trees, landscaping, shrubs, bushes, and other woody vegetation), in accordance with the three species size classes. These guidelines will cover spacing between trees, the distance street trees may be planted from curbs or curb lines and sidewalks, the distance street trees may be planted from any street corner, the location of trees relative to overhead and underground water line, sewer line, transmission lines, or other utility, and any other areas involving the spacing of street trees, park trees, or city-owned trees.
(A) Tree spacing.
(1) The spacing of trees will be in accordance with the three species size classes, and no trees may be planted closer together than the following:
(a) Small trees, 15 feet;
(b) Medium trees, 25 feet; and
(c) Large trees, 35 feet.
(2) Exceptions are in special plantings designed and approved by the Tree Commission.
(B) Distances and clearance for tree planting.
(1) Street trees may be planted in the tree lawn only if enough space is allowed for mature growth. Street trees shall be planted no closer to any curb or sidewalk than two feet for small trees, and three feet for medium trees or large trees.
(2) No street tree shall be planted within 35 feet of any street corner, measured from the point of interest intersecting curbs or curb lines.
(3) No street tree shall be planted within ten feet of any fireplug.
(4) No street trees other than those species accepted as small trees by the Tree Commission may be planted under, or within ten feet of, any utility wire, or within five lateral feet of any underground water line, sewer line, transmission line, or other utility.
