(A) A GOLF CART is a gas or electric motorized four wheeled cart designed to carry people and/or materials.
(B) The operation of golf carts are permitted within the boundaries of the town, only upon compliance with the requirements set forth in this chapter.
(C) No person shall operate a golf cart within the boundaries of the town without first completing each of the following provisions:
(1) The operator must be 18 years of age or older;
(2) The operator must have a valid identification card, operator's license, chauffeur's license or public passenger chauffeur's license issued by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles;
(3) The operator shall allow the Town Marshal or a representative of the office of the Town Marshal to inspect the golf cart; and
(4) The operator shall provide the Town Marshal or a representative of the office of the Town Marshal with proof of financial responsibility.
(D) The Town Marshal or a representative of the office of the Town Marshal shall issue a three-digit identification number to the operator of the golf
cart after all of the requirements of division (C) have been met. The identification number shall be placed on all four sides of the golf cart in a visible location, using three-inch numbers.
(E) The operator of the golf cart shall place a slow moving vehicle sign on the rear of the golf cart.
(F) Golf carts shall be equipped with two headlights and two taillights. These headlights and taillights shall be operated at all times during operation of the golf cart.
(G) Golf carts shall be equipped with a rear-view mirror.
(H) Golf carts shall only be operated on the streets and roadways of the town. Travel on Highways 28 and 67 shall be strictly restricted. The golf carts shall only travel across Highways 28 and 67. The golf carts shall only travel adjacent to Highways 28 and 67 for short distances in order to gain access to town streets and highways.
(I) Golf carts shall not be operated on any sidewalk located within the boundaries of the town.
(J) The operator of the golf cart shall abide by and follow all Indiana motor vehicles laws.
(K) The operator of the golf cart shall yield to all motor vehicle traffic.
