(A) The customer or owner shall be responsible for maintaining the service pipe from the curb stop into the building served. In the event of a water leak in a customer's steel water line that has rusted through, the entire service from the curb stop will be replaced type K copper or plastic as described in § 52.04. All work done and all materials used must comply with applicable plumbing and safety codes.
(B) If a customer or owner fails to make repairs to a leaking water service within 24 hours after notification by the Public Utilities office, the Public Utilities staff may shut the water off. Depending upon the severity of the leak and to prevent damage to other property, the Manager of the Public Utilities may have the leaking service shut off immediately. The water service will not be turned on again until repairs are made, as directed by ordinance, and the current reconnection fee as specified in the Public Utilities Office is made. In the event of a water leak in the portion of the water system that is the responsibility of the Public Utilities Commission, the Public Utilities will make full repairs at its own expense.
