For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
FLOOD or FLOOD WATER. The water of any river or stream which is above the banks and/or outside the channel and banks of such river or stream.
FLOOD HAZARD AREAS. Those floodplains which have not been adequately protected from flooding by means of dikes, levees, reservoirs or other works approved by Natural Resources.
FLOOD PROTECTION GRADE. The elevation of the lowest point around the perimeter of a building at which flood water may enter the interior of the building.
FLOODWAY DISTRICT. The area designated as a commission floodway by Natural Resources.
FLOODWAY FRINGE DISTRICT. Those portions of flood hazard areas lying outside the floodway district.
NATURAL RESOURCES. The state’s Natural Resources Commission.
REGULATORY FLOOD PROFILE. A longitudinal profile along the thread of a stream showing the maximum water surface attained by the regulatory flood.
