§ 34.098 COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT, INTERNET AND E-MAIL.
   (A)   All town employees have a responsibility to use the electric media provided in a manner, which both enhances the image of the town and is productive in its service and operation.
   (B)   This section applies to all town employees, not subject to a prior agreement or contrary to provisions of law.
   (C)   Contracts and licenses with software program providers define the limits of software program use. Employees are forbidden to use any software program contrary to the provisions of these contracts and licenses. The town provides the software programs that are anticipated to be needed by employees in performing their job responsibilities. If any employee believes that he or she needs additional software programs, he or she should consult with his or her department head.
   (D)   Employees shall not copy or install any software program of any kind on the town’s electronic media or any part thereof without the prior authorization from the designed system administrator. When so authorized, the employee shall ensure that the software program has been checked for viruses and confirm that fact with the designed system administrator before installation. Employees will follow the guidelines and procedures outlined in regards to downloading software of files.
   (E)   Contracts and licenses with hardware providers define the limits of hardware use. Employees are forbidden to use any hardware contrary to the provisions of these contracts and licenses. The town provides the hardware that is anticipated to be needed by employees in performing their job responsibilities.
   (F)   If an employee believes that he or she needs additional hardware, the employee should consult with the Town Council. Employees shall not install or attach any hardware of any kind to the town’s electronic media or any part thereof without prior authorization from the designed system administrator. Employees may have access at other times through written or expressed consent of the Town Council. As a general rule, beepers/pagers and cell phones are provided only to employees who need them to perform their jobs. Employees are to maintain beepers/pagers so that they are always in working order. Employees “on call” are to keep their beepers/pagers on at all times.
