(A) To maintain a safe and productive work environment, the town expects employees to be reliable and to be punctual in reporting for scheduled work. Absenteeism and tardiness place a burden on other employees and on the town.
(B) In the instances when employees cannot avoid being late to work or are unable to work as scheduled, they should notify their department heads or elected officials as soon as possible in advance of the anticipated tardiness or absence.
(C) Unacceptable attendance and excessive tardiness are disruptive. Either may lead to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
(D) In addition, if an employee is late, that employee may be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, unless he or she offers to the department head a written reason for being late which is deemed acceptable by the department head.
(E) Elected officials and department heads are responsible for notifying the Clerk-Treasurer of absenteeism and tardiness for their respective employees.
