139.01 ANSWERING EMERGENCY CALLS.
   (a)    The police department is hereby authorized to render mutual assistance to the safety forces of neighboring communities, including the State Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Department, in the event of an emergency. Such assistance shall be rendered only in those cases which are classified as being extraordinary and unusual and which are most urgent for the protection of life and property.
 
   (b)    In order to protect members of the police department in answering calls outside the Village Limit, the Fiscal Officer shall send a copy of this section to the Industrial Commission of the State and the benefits of the Industrial Commission Act shall apply to all members of the police department who render any service pursuant to this section.
