Personal use of a City vehicle or equipment is not allowed without the direct authorization of the Mayor, Mayor’s designee and/or the employee’s Department Director or as outlined in City policy for take-home vehicle benefits.

A City employee on approved travel to conduct City business, may use a City vehicle within 100 miles of Salt Lake City limits. For travel outside of Salt Lake City limits or for overnight travel it is recommended that personal vehicles be used, or a rental vehicle be secured from a third party at the expense of the department’s travel budget.

The City Loaner Pool program is reserved for use within Salt Lake City limits or within single day and 100 miles of Salt Lake City limits.

Employees with take home vehicle benefits must obtain approval of overnight vehicle use for the use of work-related travel from their Department Head and the Fleet Division Director.
